Happy Days!

June 8, 2015             This week began with receiving a wonderful group of people into our congregation:  Vincent and Linda Frantz; Brett, Jennifer, Evan and Dominic Hall; Michael Kardos; Henry, Carmen and Patrick Noonan; Lary an d Cynthia Petersen; John, Michelle and Emma Rhodenback;  Dee Rose and son Daniel, daughter Katherine; Ha Tat and daughter Olivia; David, Gretchen, KC and Andrew Ward; and Debra Watkins.  Some of the words used in welcoming these great folks into our congregation were the following:  "We are so grateful to receive you into this little branch of the family tree of God's family here in this time and place called Our Savior Lutheran Church.  You bring with you your life's experiences, your humanity, your gifts and even your stuggles and brokenness...all of which are welcome, as we come together to worship God, to be fed at his table, to be grounded in God's grace and mercy and by the power and presence of the Holy spirit to let God's Light shine on us and through us."   Then right after worship on Sunday a big gathering of "Day Camp Helpers" gathered to get everything ready for Daycamp which began this morning with the ingathering of over 70 campers...some "veteran campers" all excited and jumping right into the songs, some a little nervous and finding their way, but all a beautiful group of God's children coming together to grow in their faith and have fun together this week!  Here are a couple pictures.  Be sure to come by Thursday evening at 7pm for a fun program by the campers which gives a glimpse of what went on this week followed by an ice cream social.  Happy Days Indeed!       For this and more about life at Our Savior please visit our website at www.oursaviorelca.com.   See you in church!        Pastor Jack +       Weekly Devotions and Prayers: Taking Home Faith

June 1, 2015               100%!   Not even Ivory soap can claim that.  What is it Ivory claimed, 99 and 44/100 % pure?  But 100% was the vote to "call" Ryan as a rostered Associate in Ministry, as he continues to serve as our minister of music.  Not one abstention or one no vote.  That's a pretty good affirmation of his ministry, and our ministry together here at Our Savior that started for him on Pentecost 3 years ago.  Congratulations, Ryan!  The official commissioning and installation will be Sunday August 23 at our 9:30am worship, with Bishop Robert Schaefer presiding and guest preacher, Ryan's Uncle, Pastor Mark Bernthal.    And speaking of music ministry, this coming Sunday, June 7 will be this summer's first "All Generational Choir".  In the past we've had people from age 7 to 90 gather to form this great choir.  Anyone who would like to join  with others to offer some special music for worship are invited to come at 8:30am to prepare for the 9:30am service.    Looking ahead, Daycamp begins next Monday, June 8!  The camp is full, but we are taking names for the waiting list.  This is always a wonderful, noisy, fun week at Our Savior.  Plan now to come by Thursday evening, June 11 for end of the week camp program and see what the campers were up to all week.   Finally, having come out of 3 festival weekends in a row (Ascension, Pentecost and Trinity), we now enter the "green season" of the church year, a season of life and growth.  Seems fitting that this is also traditionally the rainy season for us (hopefully that will begin soon) when our grass and plants all soak on that life giving rain.   And just as our grass and plants need the life giving rain, we all need that Life giving rain of God's grace which comes to us through His Word, His Sacraments and being together in worship with His people.  So, come, join us on Saturdays at 6pm or Sundays at 9:30am and drink in the Life giving rain of God's grace.  Or if you are traveling, find another congregation and worship with them.  It will be a blessing for you and for them.  Or, if you aren't able to make it anywhere, you can also go to our website (www.oursaviorelca.com) and tune in to be a part of our worship "live streamed" at 9:30 each Sunday morning, or available anytime during the week.    May this be a good, healthy and growing "green season" for you and your faith.    Have a blessed week!    See you in church.    Pastor Jack Diehl +    P.S. Come, Come Holy Spirit!

May 27, 2015             This past Sunday we celebrated Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Worship was filled with fire, instruments, bones, streamers, music and definitely the Holy Spirit as we sang and prayed the words, "Come, Come Holy Spirit Come!"      This next Sunday we will continue to celebrate the Spirit alive in this place with Trinity Sunday and our annual Spring Congregational Meeting immediately after worship.  Before this meeting we will have a special meeting to vote on extending an official call to Ryan Hostler as our Minister of Music.  You might wonder why we are doing this since Ryan has been serving in this way for over three years now.  Ryan recently completed and was approved by the Bishop and Candidacy Committee of the Florida-Bahamas Synod for rostering in the ELCA as an Associate of Ministry with a emphasis in music and worship.  This process is the same as becoming a Pastor in the ELCA and Ryan joins the official leadership roster as a Word and Service leader which is called an Associate in Ministry (AiM).      Looking forward to seeing you in church and at the meetings! Happy Summer!

May 18, 2015     Happy Summer!   Although the official first day of summer isn't til June 21, Memorial Day has often marked the beginning of summer, especially for our northern neighbors.  For us at Our Savior, Memorial Day also marks the  beginning of the summer schedule, which means we continue to worship on Saturday at 6:00pm, but move to one worship time at 9:30am on Sundays.  This schedule was determined by a congregational poll taken a couple of years ago.  For a number of folks this is their favorite schedule of the year:  9:30am, not too early, not too late!  :-)  Or, if it is not one of those for you, Saturday is a good option, and our summer Saturday attendance is often really good, maybe because of that.  The main reason for the schedule change is to have a better worship experience.  When a church is only about 1/2 full, the singing and the spirit is just not the same as when we are all gathered together.  This is also a good time of the year to get to see other people of Our Savior who go to a different worship service.   But it's not just a schedule change this coming weekend!  It's also Pentecost Sunday!  This is the final weekend of the Easter Season, when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit.  This year we will have some special readings and music to help us grasp and celebrate this.  Be sure to join us, and WEAR RED! :-) Looking ahead, the following Sunday, May 31, we will have our  Spring Congregational Meeting when we elect council members, share a mid-year "state of the congregation" update. PLUS, we will be officially "Calling" Ryan Hostler to serve as our Minister of Music.  Even though Pentecost Sunday was his 3rd anniversary with us, Ryan has completed all the requirements to become a rostered Associate in Ministry in the ELCA.  In order to formalize this, we need to officially extend a call to him.  So, that will be happening May 31 immediately following our 9:30am service.  We will also be presenting on that weekend 12 scholarships to young people in our congregation who are either going off to college or who are continuing their college education.  Congratulations!   And finally, the weekend of June 6-7, we will be receiving new members into our congregation.  Another happy time for us all.  If you would like to be a part of that group, be sure to talk to me or Pastor Shelly.     So, even though "summer" is starting, and a number of regular meetings, etc, take a break, a lot is still going on and we hope you will join us for these and all the other things happening during this special season of the year.  Check our website (www.oursaviorelca.com)  or "Like" us on Facebook to keep in touch.     See you in church!    Pastor Jack Diehl +         ______________________________________   SPRING CONGREGATIONAL MEETINGS   Sunday, May 31st, 2015 following the 9:30 AM service.
