Lots of "good-byes" this past weekend as so many of our winter residents will be heading back north this week.  But what a wonderful last weekend it was for this season!  The Rev. Dr. Rolf Jacobson, Old Testament professor from Luther Seminary in St. Paul MN, was our guest for our 4th annual "Seminary Weekend".  His humor, wisdom, inspiring sermon and our time together during the Sunday School hour was so well received by all.  Many thanks to Dr. Jacobson.  It was an amazing weekend together.  His sermon can be heard by clicking here.

As we are now past the second half of the Lenten season, there are only 2 more Wednesdays with our 11am and 7pm services, as we hear from the spear and the shroud which were there at the time of Jesus death and resurrection.  These half hour services, followed by lunch, or preceded by a soup and salad supper are great ways to observe this season and prepare for Holy Week and the Easter celebration.

Have a blessed week.   See you in church.    Pastor Jack Diehl +

Cross    The Bible readings this coming Sunday are for everyone who feels half dead, for everyone who sees death everywhere, as well as for everyone who is afraid to even think about death. Come to worship, to receive the breath of the Spirit, to hear the voice of Christ, to be fed at the table, and to celebrate the life God gives.

Got Water?

Got water?   Oh how we take it for granted.   But oh how necessary for life itself.  Water. Without it we wither and die.  In worship this past weekend, water was the theme that flowed throughout...in our hymns, readings, prayers, etc.  Life giving water. Living water. And that Living Water is Jesus himself who came to reconcile us to our Creator, reconcile us to one another, and thereby create a new and special community where people share the grace and mercy of God...God's Living Water.   These are the kinds of relationships and this is the kind of community everyone thirsts for.

Ahhhh...water.  Living water.  Are you thirsty?   Come, drink freely and live.

See you in church.    Pastor Jack +   www.oursaviorelca.com

One of the ways we draw upon and share that Living Water is by standing by one another in a time of loss.  Later this week we remember and stand by the families and friends of Carl Ballerstein whose Memorial Service will be Thursday at 11am and Trudy Schmidt whose Memorial Service will be Friday at 2pm.  Please plan to join us as we give thanks for and commend into God's eternal care and keeping these two faithful members of Our Savior.

Cross
Last week the salvation that Christ offers the world was likened to water, and this coming week God's mercy is likened to light. What is the "darkness" in your life? Come to worship to celebrate the light that is Christ in you.

Like it or not!

OSE NEWS
March 17, 2014

"Like it or not!"   Those are the words still ringing in our ears from our wonderful visit with Bishop Bob Schaefer.  Usually those words have more of a negative connotation:   "You have to do this...like it or not" or "Another snow storm is coming...like it or not."  (That's for the benefit of our northern friends).  :-)    But, for us this weekend, these were nothing but grace filled words, in a grace filled weekend.

What I'm referring to is Bishop Schaefer's quoting a seminary professor who suggested that after each Baptism, where we hear words of promise, forgiveness, of unconditional love and God's claim on us as a child of God, and that following the words, "In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit", it would be fitting to hear also, "Like it or not!"    That's how wide and great God's love is for us...even when we are rebellious or doubting or in a dark place...like it or not...God's love for us is there.   What a great promise, what a great reminder.

And this past weekend really was filled with love, grace and mercy in all kinds of ways: from the great visit with our Bishop, our worship together, our Sunday School time with him with both kids and adults, and all capped off by the awesome and packed Lenoir-Rhyne University concert Sunday evening.  Thank you to the cooks, the servers, and the host families!

To add one more quote to the day..."It just doesn't get any better than this!"    Many thanks to all.  Enjoy some pictures below.

And remember, God loves you and has claimed you as His own... "like it or not".    See you in church.     Pastor Jack Diehl +

Cross
During Lent we accompany Jesus to his cross and resurrection, and this coming Sunday we stop at a well to receive a drink of water. The water turns out to be Christ himself. Come to worship, and join all of us thirsty people, made alive in Christ.
