Endings and Beginnings!

November 24, 2014                  An ending and a beginning!  This past weekend, the church year came to an end, as we got a glimpse at the end of the story, Jesus the King in all his glory.  This coming Thanksgiving Weekend (Happy Thanksgiving everyone!) Advent begins, the start of a new church year.   Not only will we be able to observe the season of Advent during worship on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, but on Sunday evening, December 7 at 7pm, there will be a very special "Advent Lessons and Carols" service entitled:  "Bonhoeffer: The Mystery of Holy Night".   This will include reflections on Advent and Christmas from Bonhoeffer which he wrote in the last two years of his life while in prison, along with some beautiful music and carols from around the world both old and new.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to not only experience Advent and prepare for Christmas in a very special way but also would be a great time to bring some friends and introduce them to Our Savior!   Yet another way to walk through the season of Advent is by using the devotions in the following download.  This includes devotions from our own Bishop Elizabeth Eaton along with devotions from other bishops from Canada and the Episcopal church.  This will be a great email to keep handy for daily reading.    Click Here for Advent Devotions!   May this new season be one of hope, promise and eager anticipation as we look forward to the celebration of the coming of the Christ child and the peace and love He brings during the Christmas Season and beyond.   See you in church!     Pastor Jack Diehl +     P.S. - Don't forget about Intergenerational Family Choir this Sunday - No Robes, No Folders, No Commitment!  Rehearsal at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary!          Weekly Devotions and Prayers: Taking Home Faith

Things to Do and Ways to Help!

THINGS TO DO   Holiday Bazaar Saturday, Nov. 22 8:00am - 2 pm Crafts, Baked Goods, New & gently used Christmas items Flu shots, Blood pressure checks   Christ the King and Stewardship Sunday Special Music and Festival Liturgy Saturday and Sunday Worship Commitment Cards will be available   Advent Wreath Making Sunday, Nov. 23 3:00pm in the Fellowship Hall Make beautiful Advent Wreaths with live greens Cost $15 (pay at the door) Cookie baking for kids!   Thanksgiving Home Alone Dinner Noon Thanksgiving Day Homemade Turkey dinner with all the fixings This is open to anyone in the church or community who would otherwise be home alone on Thanksgiving   WAYS TO HELP   Donate Baked Goods to the Holiday Bazaar. Drop off Baked goods by 5pm on Friday.   Help peel potatoes for the Thanksgiving Dinner. Meet in the Kitchen at 11am Wednesday Nov. 26, please bring your own peeler.   Bake or buy a pie for the Thanksgiving Dinner. Please drop off pies between 9am and 5pm Wednesday, Nov. 26th.   Don't bake or peel? Haiti Partners is looking for volunteers to help write Christmas cards. This is an easy one-time way to help Haiti Partners and their work in Haiti. There office is located 1 block from the church. She Has Arrived!

November 19, 2014 The New Organ Has Arrived!      Our Savior was happy to welcome Central Music and our new Rodgers Infinity II Organ.    The organ was installed over the course of several days and is awaiting some final tonal polishing and voicing in the next few weeks. More pictures are below of the process!    Thank you to those who have contributed to this glorious instrument that will lead the song of the church for many years to come.  Gifts to the Organ Fund can still be made and are needed as we make our final payments.     All the Pipes were removed, cleaned and tuned.     Installing New Speakers     The Organ and Pedals. "Buck Rogers" Kind of Stuff!

November 10, 2014               "Buck Rogers" was in fact even a little before my time, but that's the thought that came to mind re: what technology can do today.  I never would have imagined it, but thanks to a generous member of Our Savior and lots of hard work by Ron Lindner, Brian Rodgers and Mark Davia, who pulled over 800 feet of wire and installed microphones and a moveable camera, you can watch the Sunday service from Our Savior either live or whenever it is convenient for you.  This is meant for our shut ins, or folks who couldn't be in worship due to work or travel or sickness or whatever.  (NO, you can't just be lazy, stay in bed on Sunday morning and watch on the computer!)  :-)      You can go to our website (www.oursaviorelca.com) and under "worship service" on the front page, click on "join us live".   Pretty amazing stuff!   Another way this can be used is like my wife Karen just used it.  She had gone to church Saturday evening, but heard how great the choir and Kari's solo was at the 11am service.  So, we just went to the website, clicked on "join us live" and listened to that part of the service.  This really is a wonderful gift and wonderful way to stay connected.     Speaking of staying connected, you can also see the great new website and learn more about who they are and what they do by clicking on http://haitipartners.org.   This past weekend we helped Haiti Partners celebrate their 5th Anniversary.   To hear what Kent and Adam had to say about Haiti Partners to our congregation in worship this past Sunday, you can watch the video mentioned above of our service.    This is an amazing age to live in.  Yes, there are some negatives to today's technology, but with families and friends scattered all around the world, technology can help us stay connected.  And that's a great thing.     But not as great as being together in worship and gathering together around the Lord's Table.  For more information about upcoming events and ways to be connected and involved (like the Bazaar on the 22nd and Advent Wreath making on the 23rd and our annual Home Alone Thanksgiving Dinner and other things) please check out our website and bring your bulletin home each week!    See you in church!    Pastor Jack Diehl +   www.oursaviorelca.com     Weekly Devotions and Prayers: Taking Home Faith
