A Week Like No Other..........

March 30, 2015

Holy Week brings us to the heart and core of the Christian faith.  It begins with an excitement filled procession and royal welcome.  It then turns into the worst of what betrayal, abandonment, injustice, and the powers of evil can muster up.  They are events which defy any kind of simple explanation, and which reflect the darkest side of a fallen creation.

As I heard in the news just recently about the airliner flown intentionally into a mountainside, killing all aboard, I remember thinking, how horrible, how unfair, how evil...innocent people killed for no reason.  Then I thought of Holy Week and how that is the kind of world God entered.  That is the kind of injustice and evil that brought Jesus to the cross.   No one can say, "God, you don't understand", when we see some kind of horror or injustice, or experience that in a personal way.  God does understand.  He's been there.  But that wasn't the end.

Having walked that road, God raised Him up.  God had the last Word and broke the back of the evil one, so that we can join St. Paul in saying "Nothing in all of creation can separate us from the love of God".

Please join us this week as we walk this path, from a triumphal entry to the darkest day when the Darkness seemed to have won...then to the true end of the story...which is really then just the beginning of the story.

In the Homestretch.....

March 23, 2015

Our Savior Logo

We are in the homestretch of the season of Lent!  This Wednesday will be the last of our mid week services at 11am and 7pm as we hear another conversation under the cross and gather for soup and salad at noon and 6pm.  If you haven't experienced any of these services, this is a great opportunity to hear an inspiring conversation about how God is at work in a person's life, and to experience that most beautiful musical worship setting of Holden Evening Prayer at our 7pm service.

Then next Sunday is Palm Sunday!  Palm Sunday and Holy Week brings us to the heart of the Christian faith, as we remember the distance God was willing to go to seek out and reclaim God's beloved yet fallen creation.  On Palm Sunday all worshippers will recieve palm crosses made by a community of Christians in Africa.

To see and hear recent services at Our Savior, or watch the services "live streaming" as they happen,  you can log in from our website www.oursaviorelca.com, as well as being able to keep up with all that is going on around Our Savior.

Have a blessed week.  See you in church!

Interested in Becoming

a Member of Our Savior

Lutheran?

Becoming a member is a process of becoming part of the life and ministry of the body of Christ here at Our Savior. Every member of the body of Christ brings different perspectives, personalities, experiences, and gifts. The beauty of the family of God is each person makes it a greater whole.

We realize that because becoming a member is really joining in the life of the family of God, the best process to become a member is to do just that! So we have made some changes to our approach to membership. Instead of asking you to come to New Member Classes, we are asking you to meet with one of the pastors, complete a new member question form, and try one education and one service opportunity here at Our Savior. Some of you are already doing these very things.

Find out more by picking up a new member brochure in the narthex, talking with one of the pastors, or calling the church office. We give thanks for each person God brings through our doors and for the privilege to grow in faith together.

Help Needed.....

March 16, 2015

Our Savior Logo

"In the end, you need help.  To think otherwise is arrogance or ignorance...mostly arrogance."  This is one of my recent most favorite quotes, from a successful, self sufficient, smart and savvy guy.  He was talking about God's grace and faith as a gift.

During this season of Lent, we are invited to live in that grace of God and accept it as a gift...the help we need to become whole and truly alive as God intended.

By coming to worship, both on the weekend, and also on Wednesdays at either 11am or 7pm, where we hear faith stories from fellow members of Our Savior, we grow in our faith and in that wonderful, healthy, Life-giving dependant relationship with God.  Click here to watch worship online!

Along with these regular Lenten events, this coming weekend we have the opportunity to gather together for a workshop on Saturday and another event in our "Fine Arts" series on Sunday afternoon at 4pm, presented by singer, songwriter,  Ray Makeever.  This will be a fun afternoon of stories and music!  Ray and his family will also be joining us for worship and a workshop this coming weekend.  You won't want to miss being here.  Bring a friend!   See more info below.

PS. You can still register for the workshop (click here for more information) - open to anyone with a love of music and congregational song! Contact Ryan at Music@oursaviorelca.com

Can you provide a dinner for the men of Camp Haven?

Can you provide a meal for the men of
Camp Haven?

We have now been providing Wednesday dinners for Camp Haven for almost a year. Wow! Thank you to all who have participated. Camp Haven is so grateful. I have heard nothing but positive feedback from both Camp Haven and OSLC members who have provided the dinners. Dinners are now needed for the months of April, May, and June.

What is needed?

A main dish for 18 men on a Wednesday night. Just a main dish (a casserole, lasagna, chili, pasta dish, hearty soup, etc.). Camp Haven can furnish the sides. The dish can be cooked in your own home and delivered directly to Camp Haven by 5:00pm on Wednesday. If you need to contact Camp Haven to deliver at another time, call 772-999-3625.

 Sign me up!

Click here: Wednesday Dinner for Camp Haven to see what Wednesdays are available and sign up.

(By signing up this way through Volunteerspot you will receive a reminder email the week you signed up, which is a help if you pick a Wednesday several months from now.)

Thank you for considering helping with this ministry of feeding others!
