We heard in our Gospel reading yesterday from Luke 9 about how Jesus speaks to each of us and has different words for us at different times. In the Gospel reading we heard Jesus encourage some to go back home, while others he called to leave home immediately. It is all a reminder that God doesn't issue a blanket generic word of guidance for all of us, but is personally involved in our lives, guiding and calling each of us in different ways. We hear that call by being (by getting to be!) in relationship with the God who created us. We maintain that relationship through prayer, worship, listening, and serving. So during these summer months keep doing all those things that nourish and open us to live-giving relationship with our Creator!
Some of our Confirmation students just spent a week doing that very thing at Confirmation Camp at Luther Springs (see photo).
And this week as we celebrate the Independence of our country, along with enjoying barbecues and fireworks (I will be!) make sure you also take time to offer a prayer of thanks for the freedoms we enjoy and all of those who in so many different ways have assured those freedoms for us.
