We are the Church This past Thursday through Saturday I was at our Florida/Bahamas Synod Assembly along with Pastor Shelly, Ryan Hostler and the Hyde family, Michael, Christine and daughter Mary. Ryan was one of the worship planners along with Pastor Shelly, Mary was an assisting minister in worship (and did a wonderful job) and Michael and Christine were Communion Assistants. I was one very proud pastor seeing all of them involved in so many ways. The theme of the assembly was "Your People Shall Be My People", and we all had a wonderful experience of being God's people together. Finally, at the assembly, I was elected to be a voting member at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly in New Orleans in August of 2016. About that same time, Ryan received a call from Bishop Eaton's office in Chicago asking him to be one of only a few worship planners for that assembly. Again, makes me a proud pastor, in a humble Lutheran way of course. :-) Here is a wonderful video that was offered at the assembly about who we are as the ELCA. Yes, it's so good being the church together! See you in church! Pastor Jack Diehl www.oursaviorelca.com |
