First, it was nice to wake up this morning to our soft Florida air and more comfortable temperatures after our 2 days of winter this past weekend.   Sorry, President Obama and other visitors who came down for the holiday weekend.  :-)   But, Spring is coming!  And we know that, because it's Lent.

Lent, a word coming from an old English word meaning "the lengthening of the days", or Spring, a time of new growth, new life.   And so it is, or can be, as we enter these 40 days often with a plan to change something in our life for the better, be it giving up something, or taking something on, or doing something different.  Hopefully those will be things that will help us grow spiritually, nurture our faith and help us grow into the kind of people God has made us to be.

One of the ways that we as a community of faith help each other do that is by offering, in addition to our regular worship on Saturdays at 6pm and Sundays at 8:30 and 11am,  mid week Lenten services each Wednesday at 11am followed by lunch and 7pm preceded by a light Lenten supper at 6pm.  The morning service will be a setting of Morning Prayer, and the evening service will be "Holden Evening Prayer".  At both services we will hear voices of people who were with or around Jesus in his last days.   Between these services and the meals surrounding them, this is always a special season of faith nurturing and getting to know each other for us and our seasonal residents at Our Savior.

This coming Saturday, Feb. 23, will be a Rummage Sale from 8:30am-1pm in the Fellowship Hall.    This is one of the ways the women of our congregation reach out into the community with the money raised going to local charities.

Also on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9am til 3pm there will be a Senior Fest at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palm City.    These are wonderful, quality events with great speakers and workshops, a nice lunch and good fellowship with other Lutherans from around the area. Due to some underwriting from Thrivent for Lutherans, the cost is only $25 per person.   If you'd like to go and car pool, reply to this email and we'll get you connected with each other.

And looking ahead, on March 8, 2013, at 5:30 PM, there is a wonderful event, Educate and Celebrate, to support education work in Haiti through Haiti Partners. Come educate your taste buds, your inner art critics, and your hearts about education in Haiti! The event will take place at Northern Trust Bank 755 Beachland Boulevard, Vero Beach. Tickets for the event are $100 with all the proceeds going to benefit education work in Haiti. RSVP by March 1st by calling 772-539-8521.

These are only a few of the highlights of what is going on around Our Savior time of the year.  Please visit our website for more at www.oursaviorelca.com.

Have a blessed week.    See you in church.     Pastor Jack Diehl +
