According to the old saying, if March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb. Well, since it's coming in like a cold, windy lion, maybe on Easter (March 31) it will go out like a Lamb. Hmm....That seems fitting. As our Lenten journey continues, this past weekend in worship Jesus spoke to that question that every generation asks. "Why do bad things happen to good people?" He didn't give a simplistic, quick answer to this question, but did come to the heart of the brokenness by taking it on to himself...every bit of unfairness...all the way to the cross...and ultimately overcoming it. He also gave us a parable about a fig tree, which reminds us of the mercy and patience God has for us, as He breathes Life into us, gives us Hope and enables us to bear good fruit, especially in the middle of the bad things that happen. To hear the sermon from this past week on this subject, go to our website. Also, below is a picture from the event I mentioned in the sermon about nurturing seedlings in Haiti. Along with all of the good information on our website, attached to this email is one of the ways we can bear good fruit in our lives. And that is by participating in a Circle of Faith build, with Habitat for Humanity. Don Poust, one of our Habitat volunteers, shares some information about how and where this coming Saturday, you can get involved. More information is below. And looking ahead, on March 8, 2013, at 5:30 PM, there is a wonderful event, Educate and Celebrate, to support education work in Haiti through Haiti Partners. Come educate your taste buds, your inner art critics, and your hearts about education in Haiti! The event will take place at Northern Trust Bank 755 Beachland Boulevard, Vero Beach. Tickets for the event are $100 with all the proceeds going to benefit education work in Haiti. RSVP by calling 772-539-8521. Also, you may have noticed a paper recycle bin next to the shed near the NE corner of our parking lot. This is for recycling newspapers and office papers (no cardboard or phone books) and will not only be good for the environment, but also help support the Youth Group. Thanks! As this week unfolds, may you bear the good fruit of the spirit in your lives...love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, generosity, self control...gifts which a hurting, broken world, where bad things happen, are so needed. SAVE THE DATE! March 12th at 7:00 p.m. the World Famous Yale Glee Club, the Wiffenpoofs will be presenting a concert in our sanctuary. More information and tickets can be found on our website and more information will be in next weeks OSENews. Just a reminder to spring forward this weekend and turn your clocks forward one hour! See you in church! Pastor Jack Diehl + |
