There's no place like home.....

We see and hear that theme in all kinds of places and settings.  The other day I saw a sign at the entrance to a retirement community, "Welcome home".   Around Christmas we hear the song, "I'll be home for Christmas".   Often I'll hear a statement something like, "When I walked into Our Savior it felt like home."   There's something about the idea of "home", be it a good memory of a place that felt safe and secure, or be it the longing for a place that wasn't really a reality.

In our Gospel reading coming up this next weekend, Jesus uses imagery like this.  "In my Father's house, there are many dwelling places.  If it were not so would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?"  To be home...in our Father's house...that is the longing that is hard wired into all of us.   This past weekend, we heard how Jesus is the door, or the gate, through whom we get to enter that home, that place.  This coming weekend, we continue to gather around that idea.

As this week unfolds, what are the places, the situations, the settings, where you get a glimpse of "home"?   Or, what are the times you get to help someone else feel "at home"?  This is something we all need and want, and something that God knows about and provides for us.

See you in church!       Pastor Jack Diehl +
