OSE News: Happy New Year

OSE: News Happy New Year

 Name of Jesus

On the liturgical church calendar, January 1 is designated "Name of Jesus." Part of the prayer for that day reads as follows: "Plant in every heart the love of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ our Lord..."  What a good thought with which to enter the New Year and on this 8th Day of the 12 days of Christmas!

So, in these 12 days of Christmas, and as a New Year begins, here are some things to be aware of as we enter another year of God's grace.

On the 12th Day of Christmas, Saturday January 5th, our 6pm worship that day will be an Epiphany Celebration, as we remember the "Three Kings", the gifts they brought to the Christ Child and how this Promised One was for the whole world, all nations!

Sunday, January 6, Epiphany Day, worship is around the Epiphany theme at our 8:30 and 11am services. Sunday School also resumes at 9:45 with classes for all ages. A new 6-week Adult Sunday School class begins that we are excited about, "Worship Matters." It will be a chance to explore and learn on a deeper level why we do what we do in worship. It will be a combined class of both current Adult Sunday classes and will meet in the Fellowship Hall (west end) at 9:45am.

Also, starting on Sunday January 6 will be the new Children's Choir. All children are invited to the join the Minister of Music, Ryan, after the late service for a shorter style rehearsal of 30 min or less. Parents can enjoy a time of fellowship after worship while the children make music in games, singing, and playing. Please bring singers to the organ after worship and we will proceed to the Music Room. Rehearsals will end promptly at 12:30.

Tickets will be available after worship on January 5th and 6th in the narthex for the upcoming concert by Russian musicians on January 13th. This concert, "An Afternoon in Old Russia" is a benefit for Haiti Partners and sponsored by the Richard R Pautz Lifelong Learning Foundation. For more information and samples of the music visit our website. Festival of Worship and Fine Arts

Please note there was a misprint in the bulletin, Wednesday night dinners will resume January 9th not the 16th. All adult music ensembles resume rehearsals on January 16th at the normal times. Check the website for more information about the mid-week dinners, you can even sign up to help online. Wednesday Night Dinner Information

As this New Year unfolds, what better resolution could anyone make than to stay grounded in the Love and Light that God brings into the world during this Christmas season and let ourselves be a reflection of that Light into a world so desperate for it.
