What do they do with those little hotel shampoos anyway? This coming weekend, Sept. 7-8, we get to celebrate, with congregations around the country, the 25th Anniversary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Congregations are celebrating this milestone is by doing a service project of some sort. Click here for a message from Bishop Mark Hanson about this important anniversary.
For us, our service project will be making hygiene kits, and adding a small note of encouragement, to be distributed to local homeless shelters. There is an organization called "Clean the World" which gathers all those little shampoos, soaps, etc. from high end hotels and makes them available for kits such as we will make before and after worship this coming weekend! So, please plan on staying after worship for a few minutes, or coming early if you come to the 11am service, to help put together a couple of kits. We plan on making 400 total. Thanks ahead of time for being a part of this.
As you probably know by now, our regular worship schedule resumes this coming weekend with worship at 6pm Saturday and 8:30 and 11am Sunday. The Sunday School hour begins at 9:45am, but instead of Sunday School this week, our service project will be happening. Sunday School, with classes for all ages, will resume the following Sunday Sept. 15.
Also, this coming weekend, Sept. 6-8, our Youth Group will be making their annual pilgrimage to "Rock the Universe" in Orlando. This is always a great way to start the school year together.
