Entered Into the Saints Triumphant

April 9, 2014

Dear People of Our Savior,

Many of you may remember Pastor Diane Loberger.   Pastor Diane was our second vicar, serving here from 1995-1996.   After finishing her last year at seminary she was called back to be our first full time associate pastor in 1997.  Pastor Diane served here for about 6 years until being called to All Saint's Lutheran Church in Tamarac Florida.  After serving there she was called to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sheboygan WI.  She began a battle with cancer about a year ago, and was doing well.  About 8 weeks ago it came back strong.  She passed on Monday evening April 7.

A memorial service for Diane will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church ( 2104 Geele Ave. Sheboygan, WI  53083 ) with the Rev. Elizabeth Jaeger officiating.  Friends may call on Saturday, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, a memorial fund has been established for the St. Peter Lutheran Church General Operating Fund.

A member of her congregation wrote "Pastor Diane passed last evening around 11:30. Her sister, Jennifer, Leslie and Pam were with her. Easter has come!"

Please keep the people of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, and Pastor Diane's friends and family in your prayers.

Pastor Jack +

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Diane.  Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of you own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming.  Receive her into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light.

Interactive Holy Week

Interactive Holy Week!?    It only seems fitting that since Christianity is based on the fact that God came to become one of us, to interact with us, that as we enter Holy Week and approach Easter, we would have some interactive experiences around that event.  And it begins on Palm Sunday.   We begin worship by processing in with palms waving remembering Jesus' royal entrance into Jerusalem.   Later in worship we will all take part in telling part of the Holy Week story as it was told in Matthew's Gospel.  At the end of worship, as we begin that walk toward Good Friday, we will hold our Palm Crosses high, as we sing our sending hymn. We become a part of that story.

But even before worship begins, as we gather, this year we have the opportunity to lay down some clothes, as the people of Jerusalem laid down palms and clothes welcoming the King of Kings.  But these clothes will be laid down on tables in the narthex for Camp Haven.  Camp Haven is a place for homeless men to regroup, get their lives together, and move away from homelessness to becoming a productive part of the community. Attached is a list of things (of which clothes are just a part) for us to gather this weekend only, as a one time special in-gathering to help this new ministry in town.  "As you do this for the least of these, you do this for me."  Please take a look at the list by clicking this link, and see if there's something you can bring.

Looking ahead, we will worship on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at 7pm, then on Holy Saturday our children and families get to celebrate Easter in a special, interactive way at 10am.  There will be an Easter Egg hunt, games, goodies...a wonderful gathering of kids and families!   This is also a great time for grandparents to bring visiting grandchildren as well as friends, it is not just for our members - Let your light shine by inviting someone!

At 9am that same morning, members of the Youth Group and some of the men of the church will be setting up for the Easter Breakfast and the Easter Sunrise service.   So, if you don't have children to bring to the Easter Egg hunt, you can come and be a part of that preparation for the Easter Breakfast and Sunrise Service.

Lots of interaction in many ways around the heart and core of the Christian faith, Holy Week and Easter.   Hope you can come and be a part of it all.

See you in church.    Pastor Jack Diehl +  www.oursaviorelca.com

Cross
To grasp something fully, we need to look at both sides. This coming Sunday is both Palm Sunday and the Sunday of the Passion. We join in the joy of the palm procession, and we gather in sorrow at the foot of the cross. Come to sing both "Hosanna!" and "Lord, have mercy upon us."

Lots of "good-byes" this past weekend as so many of our winter residents will be heading back north this week.  But what a wonderful last weekend it was for this season!  The Rev. Dr. Rolf Jacobson, Old Testament professor from Luther Seminary in St. Paul MN, was our guest for our 4th annual "Seminary Weekend".  His humor, wisdom, inspiring sermon and our time together during the Sunday School hour was so well received by all.  Many thanks to Dr. Jacobson.  It was an amazing weekend together.  His sermon can be heard by clicking here.

This Spring edition contains lots of pictures, videos, links, and information about what is happening in the next few months at Our Savior!  CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD!

As we are now past the second half of the Lenten season, there are only 2 more Wednesdays with our 11am and 7pm services, as we hear from the spear and the shroud which were there at the time of Jesus death and resurrection.  These half hour services, followed by lunch, or preceded by a soup and salad supper are great ways to observe this season and prepare for Holy Week and the Easter celebration.

Have a blessed week.   See you in church.    Pastor Jack Diehl +

Cross    The Bible readings this coming Sunday are for everyone who feels half dead, for everyone who sees death everywhere, as well as for everyone who is afraid to even think about death. Come to worship, to receive the breath of the Spirit, to hear the voice of Christ, to be fed at the table, and to celebrate the life God gives.

Got Water?

OSE NEWS

Got water?   Oh how we take it for granted.   But oh how necessary for life itself.  Water. Without it we wither and die.  In worship this past weekend, water was the theme that flowed throughout...in our hymns, readings, prayers, etc.  Life giving water. Living water. And that Living Water is Jesus himself who came to reconcile us to our Creator, reconcile us to one another, and thereby create a new and special community where people share the grace and mercy of God...God's Living Water.   These are the kinds of relationships and this is the kind of community everyone thirsts for.

Ahhhh...water.  Living water.  Are you thirsty?   Come, drink freely and live.

See you in church.    Pastor Jack +   www.oursaviorelca.com

One of the ways we draw upon and share that Living Water is by standing by one another in a time of loss.  Later this week we remember and stand by the families and friends of Carl Ballerstein whose Memorial Service will be Thursday at 11am and Trudy Schmidt whose Memorial Service will be Friday at 2pm.  Please plan to join us as we give thanks for and commend into God's eternal care and keeping these two faithful members of Our Savior.

Cross
Last week the salvation that Christ offers the world was likened to water, and this coming week God's mercy is likened to light. What is the "darkness" in your life? Come to worship to celebrate the light that is Christ in you.
